Auxerre 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain: Kylian Mbappe early double sees Christoph Galtier’s side move to the brink of the Ligue 1 title after gutsy win over struggling hosts

  • Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain beat Auxerre 2-1 on Sunday
  • Lassine Sinayoko pulled one back for the hosts at the Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps
  • Christoph Galtier’s side won which put them on the brink of the title

Kylian Mbappe’s brace in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Auxerre saw Paris Saint-Germain all but mathematically secure the Ligue 1 title.

Superstar forward Mbappe scored twice in three minutes to put the visitors two up inside the first 10 minutes.

But struggling Auxerre, just one point above the relegation zone, fought back well and fought their way back into the game through Lassine Sinayoko’s goal shortly after half-time.

Christoph Galtier’s side withstood late pressure from the hosts and Mbappe thought he had a hat-trick when he coolly finished at the end, but VAR disallowed it for offside.

The result leaves PSG six points clear of second-placed Lens with two games remaining, and given their excellent goal difference, they are highly likely to retain their domestic championship title.
