Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin remains sedated in critical condition after suffering a heart attack during Monday’s game in Cincinnati, leaving friends and teammates in agony as they await updates on his condition.

It’s a similar situation to the one Hamlin faced earlier this season, when teammate and longtime friend Dane Jackson suffered a major neck injury in a Sept. 19 game.

As Hamlin described in recently released footage, the experience of seeing one of his teammates being carried off the field in an ambulance is something he will never forget.

‘I can’t describe it,’ Hamlin told ‘One Bills Live’ in the clip, which was shared on Twitter by legendary Bills receiver Andre Reed.

Jackson avoided any serious injuries, much to the relief of Hamlin, who said the experience made him appreciate life and his relationships with his teammates.

‘I cherish it every second I can,’ Hamlin continued. ‘Every second of every day. We just had our prayer, our [defensive back] prayer we do every Wednesday. He was next to me and I just tightened my grip on his hand just because you know you never know when it will be your last day to experience something like this. I’m cherishing every moment that I can.’

Hamlin not only played with Jackson on the Bills, but the two Pittsburgh-area natives were also college teammates on the Pitt Panthers before being drafted by the Bills in 2020 (Jackson) and 2021 (Hamlin).

Jackson was hurt in a 41-7 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 19 after appearing to snap his head and neck following a collision with a teammate in the second quarter of that game.

A subsequent examination did not reveal any major damage to his neck or spinal cord. Jackson returned to action on October 2.

Unfortunately, Hamlin’s current situation looks more serious following his sudden heart attack in Cincinnati on Monday.

‘Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game against the Bengals,’ read a team statement. ‘His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.’

Hamlin was hurt in the first quarter after a tackle with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins.

Higgins’ shoulder hit Hamlin’s chest on the play, but it’s hard to say whether it led to the latter’s heart attack.

Hamlin ducked after the collision, but quickly shook his head before collapsing to the turf, where he lay motionless.

The NFL currently has no plans to end the game, according to NFL executive vice president Jeff Miller.
