His comments came just weeks after the Broncos fell from the top four to the bottom eight on the back of a 1-5 record to end Walters’ second season in charge.

‘I think he’s a good person, like a good guy, but I don’t think he’s a good coach,’ Cobbo said of Walters.
‘He’s not the best coach, he’s okay. I feel he is just a good person.
‘I don’t feel like he’s a coach – he coaches a bit differently, I guess.’
Cobbo’s analysis followed similar comments from ex-Bronco Tyson Gamble, who told the Marshie’s Corner podcast in August that halfback Adam Reynolds, rather than Walters, was the tactical brains of the side and indicated that the coach is out of step with the modern game.

In a statement released by the Broncos on Sunday morning, Cobbo insisted that his quotes, like Gamble’s, had been misinterpreted.

‘Today’s article on a podcast I did last year was taken out of context,’ Cobbo said.
‘It’s two guys talking and joking about silly things like the comments about Kev that Tyson made.’
Walters has proven a big supporter of Cobbo this season.
The coach wholeheartedly endorsed the 20-year-old for State of Origin selection despite his lack of experience at NRL level, allowing Cobbo to miss a crucial game against Parramatta following claims that he was burned out, and then kept the player on the sidelines after he arrived late. in practice on more than one occasion.

Cobbo said Walters has his respect and full support, confirming that he has apologized to the coach for his comments.
‘The truth is Kev is a very good coach, as are all our coaches at the Broncos,’ he said.
‘I was lucky enough to play Origin for Queensland last year and that was not on the back of Kev and his team’s coaching.
‘Kev has taught me a lot since I came into the NRL squad and has given me a lot of support as I adjust to the professionalism of the NRL.
‘I was late for training several times and instead of cutting me off, he taught me and supported me.

‘When I felt burnt out towards the end of the year, Kev gave me a break and when he thought I was ready he gave me more responsibilities.
‘I have contacted Kev to apologize and I would like to pass that on to his family and the whole Broncos club for this unwarranted attention to some silly comments from me.’
