‘We want volunteers, not hostages’: Browns star Myles Garrett takes aim at teammate Jadeveon Clowney after he was sent home from practice for publicly criticizing the organization and saying ‘95%’ is gone will be back next season
Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett fired back at Jadeveon Clowney’s complaints about the organization, saying the team doesn’t want ‘hostages’ after Clowney hinted at a likely exit in the offseason.
Speaking to Cleveland.com in a story published Thursday, the three-time Pro Bowler expressed his displeasure with how he’s been used this season, as he believes he could have been relegated to more difficult assignments if sometimes with Garrett able to feast on weaker lineman.
‘You’re all trying to get someone into the Hall of Fame when all that matters is winning,’ he said, while estimating that there is a ’95 percent’ chance that he will not return next season.

Myles Garrett disagreed with Jadeveon Clowney’s assessment of the organization
‘Everybody got here for a reason, and we can all make plays. I know I am.’
‘I don’t think so [Garrett] notices,’ he said about changing positions.
‘I’m not trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with all my friends. He and I have no problem. It’s not his fault. It’s just BS, and I don’t have time for it.’
Garrett and Clowney had different seasons individually, as the former’s 15 sacks earned him another Pro Bowl nod while Clowney (in 12 games) only had two to his name.

Clowney had just two sacks this season while missing four games due to injury for Cleveland
And Garrett disagreed with Clowney’s belief that his star teammate received any kind of preferential treatment.
‘I think everyone’s concern is about winning games and I don’t agree with seeing it that way. The guys in our room and really the guys in our organization, our only focus this season is winning,’ he said on Friday.
‘We only want volunteers, not hostages.’
Garrett noted that Clowney’s complaints about the matchups were ‘pretty confusing’ when a reporter told him he (Garrett) faced the most double teams in the league.

Garrett and Clowney form a formidable duo in 2021, as they have 16 and nine sacks apiece.
Both players were former first overall draft picks (Clowney of the Texans), and Clowney called the pair the ‘best pass-rush duo in the NFL’ last season as he logged a more characteristic nine sacks.
That partnership looks likely to end as Clowney was sent home from practice on Friday.
‘I just feel like I need to be with someone who believes in me and my abilities. [It can’t] as long as I believe in myself. I believe in myself more than anyone else.’
