Cameron Norrie got past Taylor Fritz in Sydney but was unable to prevent Great Britain from being knocked out of the United Cup by the USA.
After the ‘city final’ started with Katie Swan defeated by Madison Keys, Norrie took out Fritz in three sets in two hours and 15 minutes at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
The British number one made the decisive break in the ninth game of the third set when he won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

GB were 1-0 down earlier when Keys came from behind to beat Swan 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The US regained the lead in the tie as world number three Jessica Pegula cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Harriet Dart.
Frances Tiafoe sealed victory for the US after coming from a set down to beat Dan Evans 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The US advances to the semi-finals which begin on Friday.
Defeat meant Britain could not progress as the best runner-up from the three city finals.
