Damar Hamlin’s GoFundMe hit an impressive $7million in the early hours of Thursday as donations continue to pour in following his cardiac arrest playing for the Buffalo Bills on Monday night.
The 24-year-old Hamlin was making ‘progress’ in intensive care, according to family friend and representative Jordon Rooney on Wednesday.
He collapsed on the field in the first quarter of Monday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, shortly after tackling Dee Higgins and had to be revived on the field.
In the immediate aftermath of Monday’s shocking scenes, a GoFundMe Hamlin set up in December 2020 resurfaced, where he outlined his plan to raise $2,500 to buy toys for underprivileged children for the holidays in the midst of a pandemic.

Hamlin, 24, collapsed in the opening quarter of Monday Night Football at Paycor Stadium, playing for the Buffalo Bills against the Cincinnati Bengals
Donations poured in, from fans watching on television to the good and the good of football. There were, overall, almost 219,000 donations made as the $7m figure was reached.
Jim Irsay, chairman and owner of the Indianapolis Colts, donated $25,003 – the joint highest donation at the time of writing. The extra three dollars matched Hamlin’s number.
Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots donated $18,003, Russell and Ciara Wilson donated $10,000, as did Tom Brady.
Other notable names such as Washington Commanders, Bucs receiver Mike Evans and Davnte and Devanne Adams donated $5,000.
When he started the page in December, Hamlin wrote: ‘As I begin my NFL journey, I will never forget where I came from and I am committed to using my platform to make a positive impact on the community that raised me. I created The Chasing M’s Foundation as a vehicle that would allow me to deliver that impact, and the first program was the 2020 Community Toy Drive.
‘This campaign gives you the opportunity to contribute to our first initiative and positively impact children who have been hit hardest by the pandemic. 100% of the funds raised will go towards buying toys for children in need.
The time to act is now, because we will be handing out toys on December 22nd from 3:30 to 5:30 PM from Kelly and Nina’s Daycare Center at 800 Russellwood Ave., McKees Rocks, PA 15136.
‘If you can’t contribute money, you can support the initiative in other ways. We are accepting toy donations at the Daycare Center or just spread the word by sharing this fundraiser on your social channels.
‘Thank you so much for supporting me on and off the field. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with you to help make the holiday season brighter for children in our community.’

Hamlin’s team gave an update on the page after raising $6m, saying: ‘We’ve just been blown away by the level of support and generosity we’ve seen over the last two days.
‘With over $6 million raised, this fundraiser became an overnight reminder of the incredible nature of humanity. Your actions are a direct reflection of the type of person Damar is himself.
‘As representatives of Damar, the team at Jaster Athletes has posted updates on the fundraiser and will work with the Hamlin family, The Chasing M’s Foundation, and the GoFundMe team to ensure the safe delivery of funds. As the situation develops, we will continue to send any updates to the fundraiser.
‘We will also work with GoFundMe to email all donors with more details about the use of funds as those details become available.
‘As you can imagine, this has been a difficult time for the family. We appreciate your understanding as we give them the time and space they need to focus on Damar’s health first.
‘We look forward to Damar’s future involvement in paying incredibly generous contributions. We thank you again for your support and look forward to updating you along the way.’
