‘I can finally say I won a Premier League more than him!’: Erling Haaland teases his father Alf-Inge after surpassing him in his first season in England by winning the title with Man City

  • Erling Haaland won his first Premier League title with Man City on Sunday
  • He joked afterwards that he could now tease his father about winning more than him
  • City have two more trophies to go this season as they try to secure the Treble

Erling Haaland has poked fun at his father’s achievements at Manchester City after winning the club title in his first season in England.

Alf-Inge Haaland spent three years at City between 2000 and 2003, but the team was relegated from the Premier League in his first season and he rarely played after that due to a serious knee injury.

Times have changed at City since then, with Pep Guardiola’s men the team to beat in England, and on Sunday they lifted their fifth title in six seasons.

It was Erling’s first trophy since joining from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and he couldn’t stop taking aim at his father afterwards.

‘We enjoy this together, the whole family, especially dad. It’s not something you experience every day, so it should be enjoyed,’ he told ViaPlay.

‘Now I can finally say I’ve won a Premier League more than him. It’s not bad to put that on your CV.’

Alf-Inge has been with his son throughout his career to date, and Erling was seen being filmed as he went to collect his medal ahead of the trophy lift at the Etihad Stadium, before the pair celebrated together on the pitch .

Haaland Sr played a big role in securing Haaland his move to City in the first place, and has been in almost all of his games throughout the season.

He was ejected from a Real Madrid VIP box earlier this month for allegedly throwing peanuts at home fans – a claim he later denied.

There could be more celebrations to come for Erling and Alf-Inge in the coming weeks, with City playing in two finals in the next two weeks as they aim to win the Treble for the first time in their history.

Haaland has been City’s star man this term, scoring 36 league goals and 52 times in all competitions.

But he was keen to point out that it was a group effort as he thanked his team-mates for helping him take the Premier League by storm this year.

‘These are the memories I will remember for the rest of my life. We were fighting a lot and I honestly didn’t know what to say – I didn’t plan to say anything! It’s special,’ Haaland told Sky Sports.
