The Great Lakes region of upstate New York, of which the city of Buffalo is a part, also rallied for the team on both sides of the New York-Ontario border. The Ontario-based Niagara Parks commission lights Niagara Falls blue in Hamlin’s honor.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced Tuesday that the City Hall dome will be lit in red and blue ‘to signify our collective prayers for Damar Hamlin, his family, the Bills organization and his complete recovery.’
The city’s only professional sports team – the Buffalo Sabers – had their players arrive before their overtime win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday wearing shirts emblazoned with ‘LOVE FOR 3,’ the Hamlin’s jersey number.
‘There’s an emotional connection to the city from our team,’ said general manager Kevyn Adams after the game.
Mary Friona-Celani, who founded the Totally Buffalo website and stores to celebrate the region, said she has been inundated with requests for a No. 3 T-shirts from fans who want to show support.
‘Sport is our relief from politics and tragedy and death and destruction so we turn to it. And when it does, it’s a sucker punch,’ he told The Associated Press. ‘And then to see big, strong men crying and so heartbroken, how can you not be affected by that?’

In another sign of support for Hamlin, each NFL team changed its Twitter avatar to a custom-made graphic with the No. 3 safety jerseys with the words: ‘PRAY FOR DAMAR.’
The NFL’s official Twitter account also shared footage of all 32 teams embracing in unity, with the caption: ‘Football is family.’
The league also announced that the suspended Bills-Bengals game ‘will not be resumed this week’ and it has no clarification ‘regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.’
As of Wednesday, Hamlin remains in intensive care at a hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, although he is slowly showing signs of recovery.
