‘Arsenal crumble!’: Social media RIPS at Gunners after defeat to Nottingham Forest hands Man City Premier League title… as fans point to ‘eight point lead’ Mikel’s side previously held Arteta
Arsenal have been branded ‘bottlejobs’ by social media users, after their defeat at Nottingham Forest handed Manchester City the 2022-23 Premier League title.
The Gunners have long been in the title race with Pep Guardiola’s side and looked to be in a strong position to lift the top-flight trophy just a few weeks ago.
Mikel Arteta’s side held an eight-point lead in March but, after a string of poor results in recent weeks, they were overtaken by eventual winners City.
The title race came to a conclusion on Saturday night when the Gunners suffered a 1-0 defeat at Forest, meaning that – mathematically – they could not catch City.
And, following that, social media users were quick to side with Arteta and suggest they ‘collapsed’ under the pressure of their run-in.

After the match, social media was quick to poke fun at the Gunners’ failed title charge
A TikTok video has gone particularly viral as it showcases a collection of memes poking fun at the Gunners’ end-of-season performances.
One of the images showed a ‘Jammie Dodgers’ packet edited to say ‘Title Dodgers’ and an Arsenal logo added to the front.
At the bottom of the pack, it reminded fans that the Gunners were ‘eight points clear’ just a few weeks ago.
Another reference was made to Arsenal’s Amazon Prime documentary which featured their 2021-22 campaign. It was titled ‘All or Nothing’ but fans edited the image to say ‘It All Came to Nothing’.
The next picture showed a Prime energy bottle. The popular drink, founded by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, partnered with the Gunners in July last year.
British star KSI said that if Arsenal won the league, Prime would release a limited edition Gunners-branded drink.
However, since they didn’t claim the title, we won’t see it released. But some fans were quick to edit an image of the Arsenal branded Prime drink and suggested it was ‘bottlejob edition’.
Another meme showed an apple crumble and edited the club’s logo into it before renaming it the ‘Arsenal crumble’.
The final image showed an edited beer can called ‘Surrender Ale’. It suggested the drink was ‘Brewed in Woolwich for W******’ and had the Arsenal logo on the front.

The Gunners slipped to a disappointing defeat against Forest which, in turn, ensured the hosts’ Premier League survival.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal at the City Ground after Morgan Gibbs-White slid in and Aaron Ramsdale converted in the first-half.
The result added to a miserable run-in for the Gunners who were held up by draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton before being beaten 4-1 by Man City.
City’s players held a watch party at the team’s training lodge and were seen celebrating wildly after the final whistle in Nottingham.
